Alleaume Ludovic

1859-1941

A French artist, illustrator and stained glass draftsman, Alleaume was trained as an academic painter. He exhibited frequently in the Salon des artistes Francais between 1883-1938. Alleaume won many prizes for his lithographs and engravings. In 1927 he obtained the prestigious National Order of the legion of honour – the highest French order of merit.
Like many European artists in the second half of the 19th century, Alleaume was enchanted by the orient. In 1890 he traveled to Palestine, where he created many sketches. On his return to France these inspired a series of oil paintings.
Works by Alleaume can be found in museum collections in France.
