Reuven Rubin was born in Romania and immigrated to Israel in 1922. He was one of the few early Israeli artists that received international recognition. Rubin enjoyed success at a time when the art market in Israel was very small indeed and till today he holds the record for the most expensive Israeli artist.
Widely recognised for his vibrant landscapes of Israel, Reuven Rubin had a special talent for imbuing his paintings with expression and love of the land. He is famous for his olive groves and Jerusalem views. Other subjects are flowers, figures and horses, that appeared in his work in the 30s and became a major subject in the 60s.
