Among the British artists who visited the region in the second half of the 19th century. Tristram was a railway engineer in London. In 1874, he traveled to Paris to study painting. After four years traveled to Cyprus and from there to other Middle Eastern countries, including the Holy land. Following his travels he published several books on the region, which included his paintings.
