Born 1953
Varda Sand grew up in a Kibbutz, and the Israeli scenery continues to resonate in her art. She received her artistic education abroad, as she graduated with honors from the Beaux-Arts in Paris, and won a scholarship from the French ministry of culture. In her work, Sand returns to the landscapes of her memories and imagination, re-creating them on the canvas in a succinct and minimalistic manner, almost on the verge of abstraction. Her paintings transmit a unique sense of quietude and tranquility, of space and flow, expressing the simple and serene beauty that she misses and longs for.
